The LVI and AMP robotics team The Convertibles won the Best Poster Award at the FIRST Lego League Explore Festival in March 2026.

Earlier this month, the Locust Valley elementary schools’ robotics team, The Convertibles, won the Best Poster Award at the FIRST Lego League Explore Festival at Hicksville High School for their comprehensive board that outlined their journey this season and the valuable lessons they learned. The team, consisting of first timers from Ann MacArthur Primary and second-year competitors from Locust Valley Intermediate, built and coded a radar rover that surveyed land to transmit data to a seismograph, which translated the information to assist archaeologists.

Meanwhile, the middle school’s robotics team, the Falconbots, competed in the Long Island Championship in the FIRST Lego League Explore program as one of the top 30 teams in the competition.

The team put in hours of after-school work in the weeks leading up to the event, improving their innovation idea presentation and performing a skit for judges showing how they could help archeologists piece together shards found at dig sites.
