Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, honors the rich histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
At Locust Valley Central School District, students in the Hispanic Heritage Club shared what their culture means to them, reflecting on the traditions, connections and sense of identity that shape their lives.
For Katie Hernandez, Elisa Valle and Miguel Guerra, culture means happiness, togetherness and fun. It is also an important part of their identity.
Other club members reflected on how their heritage shapes their beliefs and who they are today.
“It’s the basis on what I stand on, and what I believe in,” said Johnathan Bonilla.
“My country is actually the reason for who I am now,” said Rose Abanto.
The district will continue celebrating the many cultures and traditions that enrich our school community during Bilingual Night on Oct. 8 at the high school and middle school.
