New York State Class A boys soccer regional final

The Locust Valley Falcons are headed to the state semifinals after defeating Rye High School 2-0 in the New York State Class A boys soccer regional final on Nov. 7 at Jericho High School.

Lucas Mejia put the Falcons ahead with six minutes remaining in the first half. Locust Valley added a second goal within the opening 11 minutes of the second half to extend its lead.

Senior captain and starting goalkeeper Oliver Dostalek made key saves to keep Rye off the scoreboard, helping the Falcons secure a shutout and a place among the state’s final four Class A teams.

The victory continues an outstanding postseason for Locust Valley, which captured the Nassau County and Long Island Class A championships before advancing to the state quarterfinal matchup against Rye.

The run carries special meaning in Coach Joe Lee’s 23rd and final season leading the Falcons. Also a Locust Valley teacher, Lee now has another milestone to share with a team that has given the school community so much to celebrate.

For younger Falcons following along, the team’s accomplishments offer inspiration and a glimpse of what they can aspire to in a Locust Valley uniform. For the players, the win means another opportunity to compete together and represent their school on the state stage.

The Falcons will compete in the state semifinals on Friday at 3 p.m. at Middletown High School. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

Congratulations to the Falcons and their coaching staff on reaching the state semifinals!
