The community is invited to honor a hometown hero and support veterans and first responders at the Third Annual Sgt. Robert A. Hendriks Memorial CrossFit Challenge & Fundraiser on Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Locust Valley High School.
The event honors Sgt. Hendriks, a 2012 Locust Valley High School graduate who died during a mission in Afghanistan in 2019.
Locust Valley High School students Skylar Seele, Maxwell Bamba, Scarlett Modlin and John Zatwarnicki will perform the national anthem.
The family-friendly event will also feature a short, fun and easy course for children.
Over the past two years, event organizers have donated more than $12,000 to support veterans and first responders, including contributions to Paws of War and Cooking for Long Island Veterans.
