Locust Valley Central School District Superintendent Dr. Kristen Turnow joined education leaders from across the country at the Institute for Education Innovation’s National Fall Summit, following an invitation recognizing her leadership and impact in K–12 education.
Centered on the theme “Navigating Change,” the summit brought superintendents together to exchange ideas on what real collaboration looks like for a school district – from building external partnerships and academic alliances to aligning boards, unions, and communities around shared goals.
Sessions also explored communication strategies and the appropriate use of artificial intelligence to support engagement with families and other district stakeholders.
For Locust Valley, the gathering offers an opportunity to advance conversations about student focus, well-being and the thoughtful use of technology in teaching and learning.
“I am incredibly proud to have been selected—based on our district’s leadership and impact in K-12 education—to represent Locust Valley CSD in this capacity,” Dr. Turnow said in a message to the Board of Education.
IEI’s position on screens and AI emphasizes active learning, teacher-guided technology use and distraction-free classrooms.
Its focus on educational tools that serve a clear learning purpose aligns with Locust Valley’s commitment to helping students develop digital fluency while protecting their focus and supporting meaningful classroom connections with teachers.
Dr. Turnow’s participation was an opportunity to learn from fellow superintendents representing districts nationwide, including Superintendent Rich Calkins from the Pocantico Hills Central School District in Westchester County. These connections will bring new perspectives and practical ideas back to Locust Valley in support of students, educators and families.
